2006 Hobie 33 North American Championship

NOTICE OF RACE:

The Hobie 33 Class is the Organizing Authority for this regatta in cooperation with North Cape Yacht Club (NCYC). This is an official Hobie 33 Class sanctioned event.

1. Rules

1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the 2005-2008 Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS). This is a Category C Advertising (see RRS 76.1 and 79), participants are urged to refrain from displaying advertisements for businesses or products competing with those of the primary and support sponsors of the event.

1.2 The Sailing Instructions may include a provision for arbitration of protests involving rules of Part 2 of the RRS when not more then two boats are involved. This will change RRS 60.1(b), 63.1, 63.6, and 66.

2. Eligibility

2.1. The regatta is open to all Hobie 33 class legal sailboats. This is a Hobie 33 - One Design regatta. One member of each boat must be a current Hobie 33 Class Association member. Membership dues of $25.00 are included in the registration fee.

3. Entries

3.1 Entries will be received up to June 29, 2006. Send early entries to Steven Attard, 1284 Brandywine St., Temperance, MI 48182, or email your entry to Steven.Attard@bex.net. An early head count will make planning easier.

3.2 Entry Fee: $125.00

3.3 Food (3 hot breakfasts and 2 dinners for only $35 per crew member)

3.4 Saturday Party: $5.00 per person includes a DJ and dancing at the club.

3.5 Lunch Bags: There will be a sign up table at Registration for box lunches at $5.00 per person.


4. Registration

Each boat owner or his representative must report to the North Cape Yacht Club between 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 29 to complete registration details including measurement of sail and crew weigh in. The skippers' meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2006, at North Cape Yacht Club.


Proof of boat insurance must be provided at registration.

Sailing instructions will be available at Registration. Amendments to the Sailing Instructions will be posted on the official Notice board at North Cape Yacht Club.
Crew lists and waivers of liability must be submitted at registration. No boat will be registered without a completed waiver form. In the event of a crew member substitution during the regatta, the new crew member must submit a signed waiver of liability to the organizing authority prior to racing for that boat’s entry to remain valid.

5. Racing Areas

The racing area will be east of NCYC on Lake Erie.


6. Schedule of Events:

Thursday, June 29
5:00 p.m. – 7:30 pm Registration, Measurement, Crew Weigh-in
Friday, June 30
9:30 a.m. First Warning, other races to follow
Saturday, July 1
9:30 a.m. First Warning, other races to follow
Sunday, July 2
9:30 a.m. First Warning, No Warning signal after 2:00 p.m.
Awards follow racing


7. Courses

Courses will be windward/leeward. The length of courses will be at the discretion of the Race Committee, dependent on wind velocity.

8. Measurement/Weigh-in

8.1 The maximum crew weight for this event is 1260 lbs.
Weigh in will be conducted before registration.

8.2 If a crew change is required due to injury or other circumstances the total crew weight shall not be less than the original weight and not more than 75 lbs. over original weight.

8.3 Sail Measure: Sail measurements will be required for all participants. As per class rules the organization will measure the following:

Mainsail: Class rules 14 C, 14 D and 14 F
Spinnakers: Class Rule 17 C

9. Motor Size & Weight

Engines must remain in the stern of the boat. The class minimum weight to be carried in the engine space is 100 lbs. This weight can be made up of the engine, engine collar, fuel tank, fuel, etc.


10. Scoring

The Low-Point Scoring System of RRS Appendix A will apply. Each boat's series score will be the sum of her scores for all races if only six races are completed. One throw-out is allowed if 7 or more races are completed. Three races will constitute a regatta.

11. Prizes

11.1 There will be flags for the top 5 boats.

12. Berthing

12.1 Boats may be moored at North Cape Yacht Club or Toledo Beach Marina, June 29 to July 3, free of charge. Boats wishing to arrive earlier or depart later, should contact Steven Attard at 734-847-2124 or email at Steven.Attard@bex.net.


13. Launching

A ramp is available to launch all boats. Boats with a single point lift may use the hoist at North Cape free of charge. Boats requiring a travel lift will be launched after 5:00 P.M. by Toledo Beach Marina. ($33.00 in and $33.00 out.)


14. Photographers and TV Rights

Competitors give absolute right and permission for any photographs or video footage taken of themselves or their competing boat to be published in any media whatsoever; for either editorial or advertising purposes, or to be used in press information, or for purposes of promoting the Hobie 33 Class.
